How the numbers are counted

One word means five characters, which is the convention every typing test uses, so a result here compares with a result elsewhere. Words per minute counts only characters that ended up correct. Raw speed counts everything you typed. Accuracy is the share of keystrokes that hit the right character on the first attempt, so fixing a mistake with Backspace repairs the text but not the accuracy figure.

Who this is for

Anyone who wants a number to work against: a first measurement before learning to touch type, a check after switching keyboard or layout, or a warm up before a working day of writing.

How to read the result

Read accuracy before speed. Above ninety seven per cent, extra speed is worth chasing. Below ninety five, speed is borrowed against corrections you will make later. The error map is more useful than the total: a single dark key usually means one finger is reaching wrong, and that is a habit you can fix in a few sessions.
